Categories In a recent article in www.wunderground.com, a site that offers weather for your location and places that you may be traveling to, had an article listing the 10 places in the world that are deteriorating and will soon be gone.


These 10 places are:


1)  The Galapago Islands - off the coast of South America, and the country of Ecuador.  This world reknown destination is known for unique life forms and wildlife that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.  This area is also recognized by Darwin and his theories.    The ecosystem is being destroyed.  Visits to this area are being contolled and are limited in an effort to minimize losses.


2)  The Maldives - a small Asian country.  It is a group of small islands in the Indian Ocean.  A beautiful tropical paradise.  In trouble of sinking.


3) The Great Barrier Reef - located off the coast of Australia.  Recognized for marine life.  Featuring numerous species of fish, coral and more.    Coral bleaching is occuring.  Killing the corals.  Thus  changing the ecosystem of the region.


4)  Venice, Italy.  Known for its many canals an unique gondolas, romance and cuisine.  It is said to be sinking.


5)  The Dead Sea.  Located in Israel.  Is the only place in the world where a person can float without effort because of its high salt content.  It is in danger of shrinking.


6)  The Alps.  Located in Europe.  Beautiful mountains.  Laden in snow and ice.  Great destination for skiing , mountain climbing, hiking, and more.   The mountains are losing their ice formations.  The ice is expected to be gone within 40 years at the current rate of melting.


7)  Madagascar.  Is the 4th largest island in the world.  Located off the coast of Africa and located in the Indian Ocean.  Recognized for its beautiful landscapes and rainforests.  It is in danger as forests are being destroyed.


8)  The Congo Basin.    Located on the Continent of Africa, along the Congo River.   Recognized for having some of the largest rainforests in the world.    It is in danger as forests are being destroyed.  Expected to last up to 25 years.


9)  Glacier National Park.  Located in the State of Alaska.  Recognized for its majestic mountains and glaciers.  A sight to see by land and sea.   Ice formations or glaciers are melting.  They are not expected to last up to 20 years.


10) Taj Mahal.    Located in India.  A 17th century landmark.  Due to crowds and pollution this attraction will be closed to the public.   It is expected to be closed within 5 years.


So many fascinating destinations are withering before us, and full of adventure.  It is time to visit them and enjoy them while somewhat in tact in their natural beauty and splendor.
