Today we met with representatives from the Barcelo family of brands, and American Airlines Vacations to learn about recent updates.
What's happening - lots!
Recently Barcelo acquired the Occidental, Allegro, and Royal Hideaway brands into their family of resorts. With the acquisition many changes and updates were made throughout all properties. All offer an all-inclusive experience.
The brands vary in quality and standards ranging from Allegro Resorts featuring budget accommodations and amenities, to Occidental Resorts as a moderate option, then Barcelo for a more luxurious experience for families, couples and groups. Royal Hideway offers a luxurious experience for adults only.
RIVIERA MAYA/PLAYACAR/TULUM, MEXICO:
The complex of Barcelo brand resorts located south of Tulum featuring 5 different resorts - the Barcelo Maya Grand (upscale), Barcelo Maya Palace, Barcelo Caribe, Barcelo Beach and Barcelo Colonial Tropical. This complex of resorts offers beautiful beaches in a cove-like area, a waterpark, a double-decker bus to transport you throughout the complex, a shopping mall, and nightclubs for adults and kids, among other things. All areas have received upgrades/renovations in 2016. Guests can enjoy restaurants and other amenties throughout most of the properties with the exception of the Maya Grand. Only those staying at the Maya Grand can use their facilities, and those of the other properties.
Occidental at Xcaret, formerly Occidental Grand, is located next door to the Xcaret adventure park. It is a largetropical property that has many pools, and the feel of walking through a jungle - including wild monkeys. A package may be added at an additional cost for unlimited visit to the Xcaret park and its many amenities.
The Royal Hideaway, Playacar, Mexico, has all new furnishings throughout the property. This resort sits on an amazingly beautiful beach. Great for beach weddings. It is a luxury adult-only resort.
PUNTA CANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
In Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, there are two different properties the Barcelo Grand Resort and the Barcelo Palace. Situated on a gorgeous beach - Mirror Beach, voted one of top 10 most beautiful beaches. Featuring walkable white sand beaches and clear water for your swimming and water fun enjoyment. The Barcelo Grand offers included golf excursions - Once every day during the summer, every other day during the winter. The Barcelo Palace offers a casino/nightclub (please note that beverages are not included in casino). For large families this resort can accommodate up to 8 persons in their Family Suite which is like a junior suite with two rooms.
ARUBA
In Aruba, formerly the Occidental Aruba, now upgraded and renovated, is called the Barcelo Aruba. This resort is conveniently located where the nightlife is located on this hurricane-free island.
LOS CABOS, MEXICO
In Los Cabos, we have the Barcelo Gran, located in San Jose Cabos. The beach is beautiful, but it is unsafe to swim here. The resort features an infinity pool that is part sea water. The onsite lighthouse serves as a restaurant/bar and allows for 360 degrees of breathtaking views.
COZUMEL, MEXICO
In Cozumel, we have the Allegro Cozumel and Occidental Cozumel. Located on the south side of the island, they are located only 10-15 minutes from some of best barrier reefs in the world. These resorts are next door to each other, but guests cannot share restaurants or other amenities.
The Allegro Cozumel has been recently renovated and refurbished throughout. Offering a brighter more modern feel and now offer minibars and flat screen TVs in their rooms. It is the only resort on the island that offers a Stay and Dive promotion at an additional that entitles people to dive with 1 tank a day, and a choice of 4 departures to the reefs per day, preferred room locations, private lounge and more.
The Occidental Cozumel features a quiet and relaxing atmosphere in a natural environment and colonial architecture. For adults that want to escape children, there is an adult-only pool. Recent renovations include the rooms to feature a brigher more modern feel, the bridge that crosses from the pool area to the beach, new gym equipment, and new jacuzzi.
Please note that most of these resorts do not include complimentary internet and is contingent upon room category level. Internet packages are available at an additional charge varying from $25-$30 and up per day.
