Carnival Cruises is restricting and limiting smoking venues on their ships.
Beginning today, smoking in public areas will be limited to the Dance Clubs, Jazz Clubs on select ships, and designated areas on exterior open decks.
As of December 1, 2011, passengers will be restricted and prohibited from smoking in their staterooms. However, passengers with balcony staterooms will be permitted to smoke on their private balcony.
Carnival will impose a fine of $250 per occurrrence. The fine will be applied to the staterooms Sign and Sail account.
The change in smoking policy came about from the customer/passenger surveys collected at the end of every cruise. The survey showed that the strong majority preferred a smoke-free environment. Nearly 90 percent were non-smokers, while 5% smoked in their staterooms.
