This year Linda Kolanko, the owner of Cruise Planners - Linda Kolanko & Associate, from Denton, Texas, attended the American Express Learning Forum held in Washington, DC, last weekend, at the Washington Hilton.
American Express holds an anuual Learning Forum of its representatives and partners to give everyone a working knowledge of the brands offered by American Express. An opportunity for agents to learn about the various products that are available to them to offer to their clients, and to learn about what is new and exciting about each one. Even before it is released to the general public. It is also an opportunity to create relationships which can only enhance the experiences of clients who book through their representatives.
The theme of this year's forum was "Lead". The purpose of a good travel agent is to "lead" their clients to a satisfying travel experience that will provide them with moments that will translate into lifelong memories.
Approximately 1,000 agents were in attendance. About 50% of the attendees were members of the Cruise Planners franchise. It was interesting to see the sea of green nestled among the other representatives.
The duration of the forum was 4 days. During the day each person/representative would go through a rotation that would take agents to a different room with a different presenter. The presenters were people who represented a cruise line, tour company, destination, or hotel and are members of the Network. Brands represented included. but not limited to, Oceania, Silversea, Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, AMA Waterways, Sandals Resorts, AMResorts, Globus, Trafalgar and Brendan, Peru and Chile.
Some lucky attendees won amazing travel prizes provided by the suppliers. These gifts included free roundtrip air via Delta Airlines, free cruises on luxury brands such as Silversea, hotel stays, and more. These lucky people will have the opportunity to travel to places and by means that they may never have had the opportunity to do otherwise.
One of the highlights was a lighthearted presentation given to us by General Colin Powell. His message was simple - "Success is the result of hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence."
Another highlight was a night at the Newseum. The Newseum was closed to the general public and was transformed into a party and dining venue. One of the fun things was a party elevator. 3 different elevators contained bars serving a specific drink/cocktail as you were brought to the 6th floor to begin your exploration of the museum.
People who are in possession of American Express cards that accrue points with and for travel can book through Cruise Planners and not only venues that have the American Express Travel name. These people will receive points for their travel booked through Cruise Planners, and will also be able to spend accrued points on their travel reservations.
The benefits of booking your vacation from an American Express Travel Service Representative is not limited to only those who possess a Platinum or Centurion American Express Card, but also to those who are non-cardholder members. Benefits which include the service and attention of a dedicated agent, support of partnerships with well-known and recognized brands within the travel industry, and exclusive deals and travel opportunites.
