We had clients who recently returned from a 7-night cruise R/T Savona, Italy, on the Costa Diadema. Sailing the Western Mediterranean whose ports-of-call included Marseilles, France, Palma de Mallorca, Civitaveccia (for Rome), and La Spenza (for Florence/Piza).
The clients rated things as follows:
The Destinations - Excellent.
They did sight their disappointment when they got to Rome. They are avid do-it-yourselfers and did not book many tours through us or the cruise line. Their plan was to go to Rome and see the Vatican. When they got there there was a 3-hour wait. They had learned had they booked an escorted tour they could have had little or no wait.
Staterooms - Very Good.
Their initial stateroom was noisy. At the time of booking we did bring this to their attention of its potential to be noisy because of its location. They did go to the Guest Relations Desk who graciously offered them another stateroom.
Condition of the Ship - Very Good
The ship was designed by a special designer who loved lights and bling. Gave a nice cheery atmosphere. Overall the ship was well maintained and very clean throughout.
Food - Very Good
This particular family loves pasta and seafood. The Mediterranean and an Italian cruise line is the place for that! The pasta, seafood and pizza was consistently delicious. One night steak was offered. One person's steak was not that good, the other's was delicious. In general, in the main dining room, if you wanted a steak it would cost 10 Euros more per person. The menu was limited with only 3 main entrees to select from.
Entertainment - Good
Every night a different show/performance was offered. One night featured a singer with an operatic voice who sang a song from different countries around the world. This was one of their favorites. One night featured a Crew Talent Night. To their disappointment they said the acts were not very good. People performing really couldn't sing or dance. They would have walked out had they thought that this would not be polite.
Dress Code - Casual
Most people wore to dinner what they had on that day when their toured the destinations.
Room Service - Excellent
On time and at correct temperatures for food type.
General Comments:
They admitted that they did not make it to the pool deck or the waterpark on board. They did not have time or were exhausted from the touring that they did.
Would they sail on Costa again? - Definitely.
They highly recommend it. Why? Great value at a low price.
