It's all a buzz a word is leaking out that Norwegian Cruise Line is making the payment mandatory and not discretionary. Cruise Critic posted today that their sources are indicating that this new policy will soon be in force. Fellow travel agents are reporting that Norwegian Cruise Line is notifying customers of this soon to be enforced policy. My customers have not contacted me with regard to this matter.
It used to be that gratuities were once optional on this cruise line, and with a recent increase in the amount a passenger has to pay may come that these gratuities must be paid by all passengers. You will no longer be able to go to the customer service/purser's desk to ask for them to be removed from your cabin's statement (folio). A refund can be requested to Norwegian's Guest Services departments after the cruise is complete.
How do you feel about this? Should gratuities just simply be added to the cruise fare? Will other cruise lines follow suit? Will this discourage you from saiing on Norwegian Cruise Line?
