Sapphire Beach, St. Thomas
Published Saturday, September 18th 2010St. Thomas offers many beach destinations on its island in the Caribbean. One of which is Sapphire Beach.
This particular beach is easily accessibly by taxi. There is a place that you can rent beach loungers and umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment. There is also a small restaurant.
The beach itself is in a cove protected by an island that makes the waters relatively calm and inviting. Trees line the beach and offer shade. It is not that popular or well-known, so it is not as crowded as other beaches on the island.
It is a good place for snorkeling because of the calm waters and a coral reef not too far away from the beach. The coral reef is home to many species of sealife. Sadly because of the close proximity of the reef to the beach, and despite signs and pleas from the locals, the coral is dying. The coral is dying because careless swimmers and snorkelers touch the coral or stand on the coral. Oblivious to the effects of their actions to the environment.
Sapphire Beach is a beach destination to be considered when visiting St. Thomas for a quiet and relaxing place to enjoy the sun, sand and sea.
