Have you noticed?

Most of the new ships being released are getting bigger and bigger in size!  They are resorts on the ocean, and there is something for everyone.

Is a large ship experience for you?

If you are someone who gets bored easy and would love a variety of activities to select from while cruising - a large ship could be for you!

Depending on the brand and ship there are some amazing new, fun and innovative activities being added to the new ships each and every year!

First it started with Carnival and water slides, now there are race tracks, dry slides that plunge you down through 216 feet of tunnel from one deck to the next.  Surf simulators, pedal-powered bikes that offer spectacular views, rock climbing walls, ropes courses, bumper cars, and the list goes on.  Oh, those water slides.  They are getting bigger and better too!

Shows are being taken to another level.  It's not just comedians, magicians, and singers any more.  It can offer full and authentic Broadway show productions such as Rock of Ages, Grease, Mamma Mia and more that have been adapted to the stage of the ship.  They'll have you singing and dancing as you walk down the corridor to your next adventure.

Royal Caribbean is the only cruise line to offer these to innovative show venues and shows.  The aqua theater on their Oasis Class ships with tight rope walkers high above the ship, high divers, synchronized swimmers created to keep you sitting on the edge of your seat and saying "Wow"! How's about ice-skating rinks offering guests a really cool retreat from the sun and heat of the Caribbean and other destinations as guests can ice skate or learn to ice skate while at sea.  In the evening this venue can turn into an ice-skating spectacular that will keep you astonished as professional ice skaters perform before your very eyes on a very small rink.  It's amazing what can be done in so little space.

Carnival is the first to introduce the Sky Ride.  These are two tracks that hold two pedal-powered bikes that are held and suspended high above the deck.  You can race a new friend or family member.  Who can pedal the fastest?  I bet you can win!

NCL is the first to introduce a racetrack with cars that you can drive and race while at sea.  Can you imagine yourself in a race car as you speed around curves and bends?

The little ones have not been forgotten.  Water parks are growing in size and what they have to offer to helps keep those little ones amazed and cool.  They'll have so much fun splashing the day away that they are sure to sleep well at night from their day of fun in the sun.  For safety reason, many lines have or are introducing lifeguards at the pools and water sports areas to keep passengers as safe as possible.  It is still a parent's responsibility to keep an eye on their children.  Not to expect the lifeguard to babysit them for you.  When was the last time you and your child had a bucket full of water splash on you as you giggled at each other?  Your child will remember that moment.  I can assure you of  that!

The introduction of our favorite cartoon characters began with Disney with Mickey and friends.   Royal Caribbean has introduced Dreamworks and company with Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda, and friends.  Carnival has Seuss at Sea.  Do you honestly believe that these characters are for the kids?  Heck no!  They are also there for the kid in us!  I'm sure that you will be in line to get your picture with your favorite character!

The extra space of large ships also translates into larger and more shopping options.  From basic needs to luxury goods and cosmetics.  Yes, this will keep the wife occupied and there are deals to be had!  This will bring the husband some solace during those times when the weather may not be at its best as they sit at the bar and watch the wife weave from store to store in hopes of finding that special treasure.

Although the dining in most of the included dining rooms is very good offering a variety of choices to select from, the larger ships are offering a added selection of dining choices and venues.  Some at no additional charge. to those that require an additional cover charge.  Carnival includes Chef Guy Fiere's monster burger as a dining option.  This burger costs about $25 each, and it is free on board ships with this special venue.  Are you a hamburger lover?  This is sure to please!

Yes, it is true that larger ships do accommodate more people.   An astonishing number.   The good thing!  You would never know it!!  Embarkation can and does go quickly and in an organized manner.  Before you know it you'll be on board enjoying lunch at the buffet on the pool deck, and beginning to relax by the pool until your cabin becomes available.  After that, you can do as you please.  Relax you have a great vacation ahead of you!

Your accommodations and size of cabin varies according to type and ship.  The larger ships offered limited family suite cabins that can accommodate large families up to 6 or more in a cabin.  These sell very quickly, and must be booked as soon as the ships sailings are released for booking.  Otherwise, most cruise lines can only accommodate up to 4 passengers, and these too can be limited in availability.

Are you ready for a large ship adventure?  If any of the above sounds in the slightest bit of interest to you, it's time for you to give it a go!
