Over time, and due to the scams and dishonestly of numerous agents and agencies, followed by the introduction of do –it- yourself internet booking engines with discounted prices and/or perks, people have begun to avoid the services of a travel agent. Now, the travel agent’s value and the appreciation for a travel agent are on the rise as people experience problems and do not achieve the satisfaction that they had hoped to achieve by booking elsewhere.
The confidence in a computer, and online shopping, has lead many people to believe that the only way to get the lowest price for their vacation is by booking on the internet. The risks for booking online can be staggering as pictures, even past guest reviews and comments do not adequately depict what you are about to experience. Travel providers/operators, as well as travelers, are recognizing the value of the services of the travel agent. During a recent FAM trip to Cancun/Riviera Maya, Mexico (familiarization tour of numerous resorts and destination), we travel agents were treated with utmost courtesy and hospitality. Constantly hearing the words from various levels of staff saying sincerely,” thank you for coming to Mexico”, and “please let people know that it is safe here and that we will take very good care of them”, and “thank you for bringing people here”. At one resort everyone placed their hands on their hearts in appreciation, with big and genuine smiles. This spoke volumes.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines is currently showing its travel partners/travel agents their appreciation for guiding and booking their passengers to a wholly satisfying cruise vacation.
A passenger who is currently on the Oasis of the Seas sent me an email stating that Royal Caribbean had a special ceremony on board to recognize travel agents. The passenger/customer also stated how grateful she was to have me as her travel agent. For taking care of all of the details that helped make all facets of her travel as easy and hassle-free as possible.
