Travel Tips: Edinburgh, Scotland
Published Tuesday, April 6th 2010Edinburgh, Scotland was described as "absolutely beautiful" and people "very friendly and helpful". Old architectural charm and beauty - especially the castle. The castle, in my client's opinion was even more beautiful than that of Windsor Castle in England.
Due to the extent of the hilliness of the region it can be difficult for those with mobility issues to get around. It is recommended that such a person take advantage of the Hop On Hop Off bus services to take in the sights that are available.
One of the favorite excursions taken was to visit the Scotch Distillery. This distillery is located by the castle. It gives you the opportunity to sample all the different brands of Scotch from the four regions of Scotland. Not just one.
A combination of old and new. The newer section of Edinburgh contains a boutique area with upscale shopping. Channel, Gucci and other designer stores can be found there.
Edinburgh is about a 45 minute train ride from Glasgow, Scotland and is well worth it. Glasgow was a disappointment in comparison to Edinburgh, as Glasgow is a working city with little to see or do. Even shopping was minimal with the same popular department stores being repeated throughout the city.
One note for families. In Scotland, dining establishment are required to carry a special license in order to serve families, and are generally "Family Only" and do not serve alcoholic beverages. This can pose to be a challenge particularly if you would like to enjoy an alcoholic beverage with your meal.
As a world traveller, this client said it was one of the most impressive places she had been to.
