Will Cruises Sail Again?
Published Friday, July 31st 2020Cruises have begun sailing again. However, they are not brands that American's usually book into, but are geared to the European or Asian markets. So there is hope!
Variety Cruises has begun sailing the Greek Islands and had begun sailing July 27, 2020. They received the green light because of their fleet of small ships.
Large ocean ship sailings have begun as well. TUI, a German cruise line (partially owned by Royal Caribbean International), began sailing on July 24 for a 3-night sailing into the Baltic Sea without stops at any other ports. The cruises were roundtrip Hamburg, Germany. This particular ship has over 1700 berths (meaning it can accommodate up to 1700 passengers. When it sailed they had 1200 passengers on board.
A Taiwanese cruise line, called Genting Cruise Line, Dream Cruises, sailed a 4-night sailing visiting islands within Taiwan. This ship is classified as a small ship at 78000 tons.
River cruise line, CroisiEurope, mostly traveled by British citizens has begun sailing a variety of European Rivers. These include the Seine, Rhone, and Rhine. The Loire and the Gironde will be sailed soon by this cruise line.
It is rumored that it is expected that river cruise lines and cruise lines with small ships will be among the first to sail once American's are permitted into the countries that they are scheduled to visit and the CDC gives them permission to sail.
Do note that many 2021 sailings are filling up quickly or may be sold out. The popular cruises and destinations for 2021 are River Cruises (within the U.S. and Europe), Alaska, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe (Baltic) and the Eastern Caribbean. So if a cruise is what you long for, it's time to book and take advantage of the great deals with low deposit requirements now!
